IBM Research – Zurich (IBM Research GmbH) is one of the 12 IBM research labs worldwide and employs more than 400 researchers from over 20 countries who work on projects in computer science, communications, optoelectronics, and physics.
Related to information security, more than 30 researchers are focusing on privacy, cryptography, secure systems, and security management. IBM Research — Zurich played a leading role in the development of IBM’s Enterprise Privacy Architecture (EPA) and hosts a world-leading research group in privacy and security technologies.

Specialized in this area the company has begun its activity in 2002 having CTT (Portuguese Post Office), SIBS (Portuguese ACH and inter-banking services operator), INCM (Portuguese Mint) and Portugal Telecom as stakeholders. Scytáles is continuously breaking new ground by developing and offering Mobile Driving Licenses, Mobile IDs and Derived Mobile IDs as a complement to Security Printed Documents and Validation mechanisms.
Scytáles issues and personalises the software into smartphones and handhelds devices, as well as back-end systems, along with validation mechanisms via our software platform, which can be cloud-based or stand-alone deployed at our customers/partners premises. The company is working in the areas of travel documents, resident permits, driving licenses, healthcare cards, corporate cards, smart- & loyalty cards, among others within the governmental & enterprise area.
Through handheld and hardware devices, customers and partners are offered the opportunity to perform operations “online” but also in “offline” modes with communication protocols as NFC, BTLE, Wifi Aware, QR, Barcodes, PDF417, HTTP/S etc for making Authentication, Traceability and Connectivity via customer and partner interfaces as well as access digitally stored information (Big Data/Data Exchange Services).
Among the products offered to the market today, are the Scytáles Mobile Driving License/Mobile ID (mDL/mID), the Scytáles Derived Mobile ID, the Scytáles Mobile Validator and the Scytáles Service Manager.
The Scytáles mDL/mID is based on the ISO 18013 Part 5 compliancy and latest revisions. The company is standardizing one of its products and representing Sweden as an expert through the Standardisation Body (SIS) and Task Force 14 on mDL within ISO/IEC JTC1/SC17/WG10. Scytáles has worked towards the mDL standardisation since 2015.
UNIVERSIDAD DE MURCIA
The University of Murcia (http://www.um.es/) is a large University with approximately 36.000 students and 3.500 staff members. The research group participating in this project has experience in security in network infrastructure and the integration of intelligent techniques and agents based middleware platforms. UMU group has participated in several EU projects within FP5 to FP7 in the IPv6 fields with strong expertise in security and mobility in IPv6.
It has been collaborating in different national and international research projects like Euro6IX, 6Power, Deserec, Enable and STORK2.0. In the area of security UMU has been involved in SEINIT, POSITIF and SWIFT FP7 projects and now it is technical coordinator of H2020 project ANASTACIA and ARIES. UMU has several trademarks over development on security and open sources solutions for security in networking, IoT and policy management tools.UMU team it is coordinating other international projects like H2020 ENTROPY, or TEMPUS NORIA. UMU it is active in international collaboration with agreement with NICT in Japan or ETRI Korea.
THE ALEXANDRA INSTITUTE
As an RTO (Research and Technology Organisation), the Alexandra Institute participates in applied research and innovation projects with the goal of bringing novel research ideas from academia to work in the industry. We have a strategy of being ahead of the market; with services based on novel research both our own but also research from academic partners in the projects.
The Alexandra Institute’s Security lab has strong expertise in working with, and applying, advanced cryptography. This includes identity related cryptography and especially threshold cryptography, the two cryptographic techniques that will be combined and applied in OLYMPUS. This practical cryptography expertise comes from participating in a long list of research and innovation projects, both European and national Danish projects, including academic and industrial partners.
